Voices that Matter-The Scribe Project
Storytelling as legacy. Listening as presence.
A living storytelling project preserving the voices, memories, and meaning that shape a life.
What Is Voices That Matter — The Scribe Project?
Every life carries something worth remembering.
Voices That Matter — The Scribe Project is a living storytelling project centered on listening, witnessing, and preserving the stories that shape a life.
Through relaxed, recorded conversations, people share memories, relationships, turning points, and moments that matter. I listen, follow what emerges, and shape what is shared into a first-person story that remains rooted in the storyteller’s own voice.
This is where my public, community, and group storytelling projects live.
Public Projects are created around a particular theme, community, or shared experience and are open to anyone who feels called to participate. There is no cost to share a story. Contributions are never required, but are always welcome and help support the continued creation and sustainability of the work.
As the stories gather, they become part of something larger. Many public projects culminate in a printed book, bringing individual voices together into a collective record that can be preserved and shared. When complete, these books may also be made available for purchase on Amazon.
Community and Group Projects are created in partnership with organizations, residences, families, communities, or groups that want to preserve a shared history or collection of voices. Because each project is different, the scope, format, and cost are developed and negotiated individually.
Projects may include individual story conversations, Story Circles, photographs, written stories, digital collections, and a finished printed book.
I am the Scribe. The story belongs to the person who lived it. My role is to listen, follow the threads, and help preserve what matters.
One conversation. One story. One voice witnessed
The Scribe
There is no rigid questionnaire and no predetermined path the conversation has to follow.
We begin by talking.
I listen for the memories, relationships, details, humor, emotions, and moments that begin to surface. One story may lead to another. A small detail may open the door to something unexpected.
We follow those threads.
My role is to listen closely, notice what carries meaning, and shape what emerges into a first-person story that still sounds like the person who lived it.
I am the Scribe. The story remains yours. I simply help bring it into words.
Public Story Projects
Birth to 100 and Beyond
A growing collection of stories
representing every age of life.
From birth through 100 and beyond.
The Shalom 50th Anniversary
A collection of voices, memories, and reflections
honoring the people and experiences that have
shaped Shalom across fifty years.
Communities & Larger Projects
Voices That Matter can also be created for families, communities, organizations, and groups who want to preserve a collection of stories or honor a shared experience.
Projects can include story circles, community storytelling programs, milestone and anniversary collections, family story books, sponsored stories, and multi-story legacy projects.
Each project is shaped around the people involved while keeping the heart of the work the same: thoughtful conversation, deep listening, and stories preserved in the voices of the people who lived them.
Whether you are honoring one family, celebrating a community, or creating a collection of stories around a shared history, we can design a project that reflects what matters most.
Interested in creating a community or larger story project? Let’s talk.
Share a Story
You do not need to be a writer, prepare anything in advance, or know exactly what story you want to tell.
We begin with a conversation and follow what emerges.
If you would like to participate in one of the Voices That Matter public projects, you are welcome to share a story at no cost.
Your story may become part of a larger themed collection and, when a project is complete, may be included in a printed book.
Contributions are never required, but are always welcome to help support the continued creation and sustainability of the work.
Support Voices That Matter
Voices That Matter public projects are one of the ways I give back through this work.
There is no cost to participate in a public project. If a story belongs within the theme of a project, the invitation is simply to come, share, and be heard.
Contributions are never required, but they are always welcome.
Your support helps make it possible for me to continue recording, writing, editing, designing, and preserving these stories—and helps sustain both current and future public projects.
You may choose to contribute in whatever way feels meaningful to you.
Every contribution helps keep this work open, accessible, and growing.
Jennifer Mark is a writer, scribe, teacher, and creator of Voices That Matter—The Scribe Project.
For nearly four decades, her work has centered on sitting with people, listening deeply, and witnessing the experiences that shape a life. Her professional background includes healthcare, twenty-seven years conducting in-home medical examinations within the life-insurance industry, and transformational coaching.
A life-changing journey to southern Africa in 2016 deepened her relationship with listening, story, memory, and meaning. Voices That Matter grew from that lifelong thread.
Through guided conversation and first-person storytelling, Jennifer helps people preserve the moments, voices, and wisdom that might otherwise be lost.
